Inverted Pyramid in the Spanish Countryside

If you’ve ever wondered what homes from the future will look like, this spectacularly unusual building might be aligned with the image that springs to mind. The Inverted Pyramid House is nestled into a hillside in Spain’s beautiful countryside, and everything about the building is non-traditional. It offers epic views of the surrounding forest and the swimming pool below, in a shape that you wouldn’t expect. The residence was designed as a thought-provoking way to reinvent how homes interact with their environment.

The amazing ‘upside-down’ home features three bedrooms and a lounge, all on the top level of the inverted pyramid design. Large cutouts in the concrete all around the spacious living area provide incredible views over the surrounding landscape and large windows draw natural light into the interior. Privacy is achieved with a variety of mezzanine levels, which seem to float within the pyramid. These separate levels also help to create very defined living areas, including dining spaces and bedrooms and make the whole interior feel open and airy. The layout also allows light from the huge windows to get as far as the all the corners of interior.

Earlier designs of this development, which has been created by Makoto Takei and Chie Nabeshima of TNA for the innovative Solo House project, showed another flipped pyramid sunk into the hillside, creating a large outdoor pool. More up-to-date images released by the architects show that the separate pool idea has been shelved, and the new design will incorporate a pool into the large, flat roof of the inverted pyramid. This truly amazing house will certainly be an intriguing fixture of the Spanish countryside for decades.
