What Can you Buy for £1 Million Around the UK Today?

From a six-bedroom equestrian property in England to a seafront mansion in Northern Ireland, here’s what you can buy around the UK for £1 million today.

After the celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s life this week culminating in yesterday’s incredible send-off watched by millions (if not billions) across the world, we thought it would be interesting to take a look at what properties can be bought in each nation around the United Kingdom as one monarch’s reign comes to an end, and another begins…

We have often looked at what can be bought for £50,000 or £100,000 or indeed the average UK house price, which today (or back in July when the Office for National Statistics’ most recent House Price Index was calculated) was £292,000. So, making a change from the norm, today we thought we’d check out a much higher house price bracket and look at what you can buy around the UK for a cool £1 million.

Next up, we searched for a £1 million property for sale in Scotland, where the average price is £193,000 according to the ONS’s July figures, and found this impressive, restored Laird’s home that dates back to the 17th century.

The older parts of the property have been tastefully restored by the current owners who have retained many of its historic features while at the same time adding a new, modern wing featuring a stunning kitchen, galleried landing, bedroom and bathroom as well as a detached cottage which is ideal for holiday lets.

The lovely gardens include lawns, flower and shrub borders and a rotating octagonal summer house while a wooded bank leads down to the burn.

Located approximately six miles northwest of the charming fishing port of Stonehaven, and a short distance north of the ancient ruins of Dunnottar Castle, Mergie House is in a private and rural setting surrounded by beautiful woodlands and fields but is also easily accessible having both the A90, the main highway in eastern Scotland, running between Edinburgh in the south to Fraserburgh in the North and the A92, which runs through Fife, Dundee, Angus and Aberdeen, within easy reach.

Positioned right on the waterfront, on Hobbs Point, Pembrook Dock this historic Grade II listed property was built in the 1830s. During its 200-year history, the building has served as a hub for the Irish mail service, a military depot for the royal engineers, a café and now as the breathtaking home it is today.

The highlight of the house is the bespoke kitchen leading out to the outdoor balcony area that offers some of the finest views of Milford Haven Waterway. In fact, almost all of the rooms at the Old Pier House enjoy a view of the water.

If you are looking for a £1 million pound property in Northern Island you may struggle to find a large selection to choose from.

This is because, with the average property costing just £169,000, you can get a lot of bang for your buck if you are property shopping across the Irish Sea.

Despite the rarity of £1m+ properties in the area, we did manage to find one property being sold for precisely £1 million in our Northern Ireland search. The newly refurbished two-storey property, which has been built at an angle to enjoy the stunning sea views from two sides, features four bedrooms, a modern kitchen, a stylish hallway and a sweeping staircase leading up to a large landing, which serves the four luxuriously decorated bedrooms and bathrooms.

Outside there is a separate lawn and a patio area with a hot tub in situ and a two-storey double garage.

Which of our four properties caught your eye today? We wonder what kind of properties UK property investors will be able to buy for £1 million by the time Prince William comes to the throne.
