Rightmove’s Top Properties of the Year

UK property portal Rightmove has revealed its top five most viewed properties of 2019. It seems a home with back-story and luxury living are this year’s key must-haves for its curious website visitors. From a grand Scottish castle that’s over 100 years old to a sparkling mansion in TOWIE’s heartlands, join us as we step inside the five homes that have captured property hunters’ imaginations this year…

1. TOWIE Glitz and Glamour

The property taking the top spot as Rightmove’s most viewed house in 2019 is the former home of Newcastle striker Andy Carroll and his TOWIE partner Billi Mucklow in Chigwell, Essex. This glamourous 8000 sq. foot mansion, currently listed on the portal for £4.99 million, boasts nine bedrooms, a stunning open plan bespoke kitchen/breakfast/family room, a cinema room, an annexe with games room and bar and even features a replica Angel of the North sculpture in the driveway of the gated, landscaped grounds.

When viewing the listing, be sure to check out the master bedroom that is hiding a cheeky secret on the ceiling above the bed. Guessed what it is yet?

2. A Scottish Castle with Stunning Loch Views

Taking second place in Rightmove’s most viewed properties of 2019 is a magnificent castle on the banks of Loch Sunart boasting panoramic views of the islands of Risga, Carna and Oronsay and the Morven Hills on the far north side of the loch.

Built in 1902, Glenborrodale Castle is a five-storey Scots Baronial mansion built of red Dumfriesshire sandstone. Included in the £3.75 million price tag are a detached coach house, a gym and a boathouse and jetty. The grounds of the castle extend to 132 acres and include the Isle of Risga and Eilean an Feidh.

3. A Penthouse in Manchester

The third most viewed property in 2019 also has a football connection; Beetham Tower enjoys spectacular views across the city of Manchester that include Old Trafford stadium, the home of Premier football team Manchester United. As the only apartment in Rightmove’s top five, the three-floor penthouse, priced at £3.5 million, oozes class and sophistication.

Entering the apartment from the main entrance on the 45th level you will be greeted by the luxurious, curved reception hallway taking in the polished marble tiled flooring and fashionable Wenge-stained timber. To make the most of the stunning views, the apartment is fitted with floor-to-ceiling windows, it also features a cinema room and multiple terraces from which to enjoy the high life – quite literally!

4. Country Home with an Indoor Pool and Gym: What’s Not to Love?

The fourth most viewed property on Rightmove this year is this luxurious seven-bedroom family home with indoor pool and gym.

On the market for a cool £3.95 million, we can just imagine taking a well-earned dip in the inviting indoor swimming pool or putting our feet up enjoying a bowl of popcorn while watching a movie in the cinema room.

The impressive mansion is located on a one-acre private plot in Prestbury, Cheshire and enjoys beautiful countryside views.

5. A Historic Country Manor

Steeped in history, this beautiful country manor in Christow, Exeter is bursting with character and charm while also enjoying all the conveniences of modern-day living such as newly renovated bathrooms, wood burners in all the main rooms, built-in wardrobes in the bedrooms and more.

Canonteign Manor (originally “Canons’ Teign”) is listed in the Doomsday book of 1086. It was once garrisoned for the King during the Civil War and taken by Fairfax in 1645 and has since been inhabited by a succession of prestigious families.

The ten-bedroom, Grade I-listed home being marketed on Rightmove for £3.95 million, appears elegant and cosy at the same time, and amongst many incredible features, boasts an outdoor swimming pool, a games room, several wood-panelled rooms, original stone fireplaces and ten acres of private countryside with spectacular views across the valley of the River Teign.

Rightmove’s property expert Miles Shipside said of 2019’s top five viewed properties: “It’s great to see such a brilliantly diverse variety of homes available on Rightmove and it’s no surprise to see these five properties at the top of our list. Each Christmas I’m always curious to see which homes have sparked the most interest across Great Britain throughout the year and suffice to say the properties with the biggest personalities or quirkiest features are usually the most popular.”

According to Rightmove Boxing Day is one of the busiest days to view properties. In fact, last year around 40 million homes were viewed throughout the day. So, if you have a property to list, today might be a good time to register.
