The Modern Lodge couldn’t be more aptly named. This reimagining of the traditional lakeside retreat draws heavy inspiration from the owners’ work as a commercial photographer, creating picture-perfect apertures of Weatherby Lake and allowing the usually urban-dwelling owner to leave city life behind for a short time.
The simple rectangular form is made up of two stacked volumes, with the main communal spaces clad in stylish timber which will weather and age with its surroundings. The private wings of the property are clad in white stucco to create that important differentiation between the two.
The large double-height windows help to forge an important connection between the interior and the exterior – which is essential when you’re building a property in such a fantastic location. The glazing creates amazing waterfront views, and there’s a covered deck area which further blurs the lines between inside and out. Perhaps the most exciting feature for those interested in entertaining is the lakeside seating area, situated down a flight of stairs to the rear of the property.
The Modern Lodge is tastefully decorated, with clean lines and warm woods a clear theme. Many of the walls are clad in tactile, rich wood that creates a sense of intimacy and warmth – pure white walls would make this space feel clinical, cold and nowhere near as relaxing.
